Support for Prof Bernhard Schär

The Collective for Academic Freedom, Democracy and Solidarity (CLADS) fully supports Professor Bernhard Schär, who has been the victim of a virulent and baseless campaign by the NZZ and Weltwoche newspapers. Prof. Schär's historical expertise is internationally recognised. Indeed, the research carried out by Professor Schär and his fellow historians is well-founded and necessary. While it may bring to light uncomfortable truths, we must not add to these historical misdeeds by conducting a witch hunt against the researchers who are working to expose them. We support free research: universities must be able to criticise past and present regimes. Our democracy depends on it.
