Rally in support of (former) professor Joseph Daher

Whilst the proceedings challenging the “non-renewal” of (former) Professor Daher’s contract by Unil are still ongoing, Unil – fearing the consequences of a defeat before the Public Service Labour Tribunal (TRIPAC) – served notice of his dismissal to (former) Professor Daher in a letter dated 24 April.
Unil is thus dismissing an employee with whom it considers it has not had an employment relationship for more than 15 months, since the ‘non-renewal’ of the original contract dates from 31 January 2025. This episode is, in fact, merely yet another consequence of the arbitrary and unacceptable decision taken by Unil in 2025. Professor Daher and his trade union (the Public Services Union) have therefore also opposed this decision. In accordance with legal procedure, Professor Daher and Unil have been summoned to an initial ‘conciliation’ hearing at TRIPAC on Friday 21 August at 2.00 pm.

The organisations campaigning against the arbitrary nature of this decision and in defence of academic freedom – which is seriously undermined by such practices – are calling for a rally outside TRIPAC at 1.30 pm on Friday 21 August. They are also calling on UNIL’s new management, which has just taken office, to conduct a thorough review of this case, to reverse the decision taken by UNIL’s former management, and to reinstate (former) Professor Daher.
